Adult Education - Year Round 

​We are a MyPlace partner under the Mayor's Office of Children and Families. Through our MyPlace partnership, we offer intakes, educational assessments, and referral activities. Participants can choose an accessible MyPlace site in the Philadelphia Metropolis.

 

We offer free GED preparation and testing scholarships on a first come first serve basis.

 

We cater to the unique educational needs of the individuals we serve.

First Aid/CPR/AED

The purpose of the program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies to know how to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrives and take over.​

This program is available in two delivery formats: classroom (instructor-led) and blended learning, featuring online simulation learning followed by an in-person skills session. Classes start every Friday. Starting is 11:00am. 

These courses will demonstrate hands on competency of several of the skills you learned in the online portion. There will be a quick lesson review followed by practice that complies with COVID-19 public health guidance.

OSHA 30 - 4 Weeks

This program educates and prepares construction site supervisors with OSHA safety standards.

Upon completion, students will receive an official OSHA card from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). It is a comprehensive overview of standards that OSHA has set in place for job site safety. It is specifically structured for hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention.

CompTIA A+ - 8-12 Weeks

We are offering veterans the opportunity to become certified IT Specialist. This is a 200 hours course for persons with basic computer knowledge.

A+ certified professionals identify issues and problem-solve more effectively than those without certification.

Successful individuals will have the knowledge required to:

  • Assemble components based on customer requirements

  • Install, configure and maintain devices, PCs, and software for end users

  • Understand the basics of networking, security, and forensics

  • Understand the basics of virtualization, desktop imaging, and development

  • Apply troubleshooting skills to diagnose, resolve, and document common hardware and software issues

  • Provide appropriate customer support

Direct Care Certification

4 Weeks

PA Department of Human Services Direct Care (Online Course) consists of twelve thirty-minute modules. Students complete four (4) modules per week and are quizzed every Friday.

This program will help you learn basic skills and information to become a direct care staff person. It is important to complete each module. There is an exam at the end which includes questions from each module.

Once you pass the exam, you will earn a "Certificate of Completion" to show to employers.
 

This program must be completed before you can begin to provide unsupervised activities of daily living at in home or a personal care home in accordance with 2600.65(d)(2) and (d)(3) (relating to direct care staff person training and orientation).

COVID-19 Safety Guidelines 

for

Construction - 4 Weeks

​COVID-19 has disrupted day-to-day operations in construction and countless other industries. In these uncertain times, workplace safety and health are more important than ever before.

Guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and public health experts can help reduce the transmission of COVID-19 on construction job sites. Following health and safety guidelines for the construction industry plays a key role in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

Lead Paint Remediation

 4 Weeks

 This training is provided for the following reasons:

  • Comply with EPA or state/ Indian Tribe training, accreditation, and licensing requirements.

  • Provide the knowledge to do your job properly and safely

  • Train you in the laws and practices that apply to lead-based paint hazard control projects.

  • Meet the requirements of 40 CFR Part 745-Lead.

  • Meet the requirements for Lead-based Paint Activities in Target Housing and Child- Occupied Facilities (a Federal regulation under section 402 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).

  • Meet the requirements of HUD's Lead-Safe Housing rule (24 CFR Part 35 et al) for renovations, maintenance, and remodeling workers who disturb lead.

  • Must pass the Environmental Protection Agency Test for Certification.

Carpentry - 6 Months

This building trade course will give students the following core skills:

  • Basic Safety/OSHA 30

  • Introduction to Construction Math

  • Introduction to Hand Tools

  • Introduction to Power Tools

  • Introduction to Construction Drawings

  • Basic Rigging

  • Basic Communication Skills

  • Basic Employability Skills

Electrical - 6 Months

This building trade course will give students training in the installation and maintenance of electrical/electronic systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. This program will help students break into this industry by giving the skills needed to install, maintain, and repair even the most complex electrical systems. Students will learn:

  • Electrical: Basics, tools, boxes, receptacles, switches, circuits, and systems, wiring protection devices, and equipment for commercial installations

  • Repair or Replace: Residential and commercial wiring, equipment, electrical panels, or fixtures using hand tools and power tools

  • Installing: Lighting, ceiling fans, appliances, televisions, telephones, data, and basic alarm systems

  • Identify: Electrical problem using a variety of testing devices.

  • Read: Blueprints and technical diagrams

Computer Literacy - 4 Weeks

This program is a hands-on course designed for Adult learners. Since the new, January 2014 four- part GED test, which is computer driven, computer literacy is now a necessary component of Adult Basic Education.​

Lead Dust Sampling Technician 

 4 Weeks

There are three (3) courses for participants who wish to be certified to conduct evaluations for lead dust, lead hazards, and/ or lead-based paint.

This program is 8-16 hours that teaches one how to become a lead dust sampling technician. 

You will learn to conduct:

  1. Visual Inspection

  2. Collect dust wipe samples

  3. Interpret results

  4. Write a lead dust clearance test report

Plumbing - 6 Months

This building trade course will give students the aforementioned core skills with the basics of pipe fitting, soldering and clamping. The plumbing and sanitary systems are an essential parts of every house or building.

Students will learn the following:

  1. Proper planning and designing of plumbing systems

  2. Installation of pipes, hot water tanks and HVAC systems

  3. Basic System Repairs

  4. Maintenance

  5. Servicing of plumbing fittings and fixtures
